SERASIS® consists of a reusable trocar and a disposable device. This disposable part was specially developed in co-operation with users for the surgical technique of a tension-free tape. In designing the tape great care was taken to protect the patient’s sensitive tissues.For this reason SERASIS® contains a medical blue SERAPREN® (polypropylene) fabric which, due to the loops in it, adheres to tissue without piercing it.
The non-absorbable SERATOM® meshes are made of monofilament polypropylene fibre. The partially absorbable variant (PA) is knit from a bicomponent fibre. The base fibres of this implant are also made of polypropylene, but are substantially finer. These fibres are covered in an absorbable coating of glycolide and ε-caprolactone. With its hydrophilic surface and initially rigid structure, SERATOM® PA offers optimal handling for the surgeon. In the course of its absorption, the foreign body proportion is minimised and the macroporous pores allow good tissue ingrowth. The conversion to a light-weight, soft mesh implant is complete.
